News Release Update: Nighttime ride funds daytime dreams of Sacramento students in foster care with ?Top Gear? Sponsor Sacramento, CA (July 15, 2015) ? Lunar Lunacy Ride has secured the ?Top Gear? sponsor for their 2015 ride to take place August 1. Lasher?s Elk Grove Subaru is leading the pack of local businesses changing the lives of Sacramento children in foster care. ?Lunar Lunacy Ride is perfectly aligned with The Subaru Love Promise*,? states Lasher?s General Manager, Vince Bloom. The charitable partner of this year?s ride, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) shares the promise of love to some of Sacramento?s most deserving students through their ?Making Memories? program. The program is designed to fund the everyday activities most families take for granted. The Point West Rotary Club, who organize the annual ride, are thrilled with the leadership provided by Elk Grove Subaru ?I can't think of a better fit for Lunar Lunacy,? says Tom Slagle, founder of the ride and a Point West Rotary member. The Making Memories program funds everything from high school band trips, ballet shoes for an up-and-coming dancer, summer camp, football jerseys, prom tickets, to just being able to buy a high-school year book. ?Foster families and teachers apply for an average grant of $200 to go toward the little extras that allow these kids to join in activities with their peers ? helping them to feel like a part of their communities and alleviating some of the loneliness and awkwardness kids in care often experience,? says Carol Noreen, executive director of CASA. Elk Grove Subaru General Manager, Vince Bloom recalled, ?In my day, driver?s education was provided free through our high school ? not so today. A 16 year-old foster youth is often unable to take a driver?s ed course due to the required fees. Our dealership is proud to help CASA youth grow skills for self-esteem and independence.? The Lunar Lunacy Bike Ride, open to all ages, will be held under a full moon at the California State Capitol. Riders will begin on the Capitol?s West Steps, and cruise through the streets of Sacramento on either a 5-mile or a 15-mile course. The courses are a combination of city streets and bike trail with a rest area at the half-way point of the 15-mile course. Pre-ride events will include tasty fare from award-winning Sacramento food trucks, DJ music provided by DJC-dub, and ?Best Decorated Bike? and ?Best Looking Team? contests. All riders will enjoy finish line refreshments and surprise take-away souvenirs The fun starts at 7pmm, with the official Elk Grove Subaru start -car leading riders for the 15-mile at 9 pm followed shortly thereafter by the 5-mile riders. Lunar Lunacy Ride is truly a community event. Out of town? Be a ?virtual cyclist? and join with an online donation. Unable to ride?
